Senate Health Care Debate Continues, Cloture Vote Tonight

The Senate is continuing debate on health care reform legislation. Tonight at 8pm a cloture vote will take place on the motion to proceed to the bill. Sixty votes are needed, and if cloture passes, debate on the bill will occur after the Thanksgiving recess.

Gov't officials held several events examining the financial markets. Sen. Banking Cmte. Chair Dodd (D-CT) held hearings on financial regulatory reform legislation & abusive overdraft fees. Chair. Bernanke outlined steps the Fed is taking to improve the economy. Sec. Geithner explained how the financial reforms proposed by G20 members could impact the U.S. Also, A.G. Holder & Sec. Geithner announced a new financial fraud enforcement task force.

Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Chair. Joe Liberman (D-CT) began his investigation into Maj. Nidal Hasan's shooting at Fort Hood military base. The hearing focused on the Army's ''warning signs'' policy and whether any other actions could have prevented the attack. Also, Defense Sec. Gates & JCS Chair. Adm. Mullen announced a review board to study the incident.
